HOW TO START YOUR BATHROOM RENOVATION

Renovating is not an easy job, especially when it is your first time renovating ever. A million questions pop up when you want to start renovating a room at your place. But hey, here’s the good news…

You might not believe it but there’s an answer to all of those questions! Last year we renovated our bathroom and here I am sharing our process step by step. Follow these steps carefully and you can enjoy your new place in no time!

Create your moodboard

First things first! Obviously you have (or haven’t) exactly in mind what kind of mood you want to create in your room. Pinterest and Instagram are the perfect help for this! Keep scrolling, clicking, enjoying all those perfect images and create a moodboard for your renovation project. No need to keep your budget in mind for this part. No idea is too crazy, no dream is too big! Here’s a tiny example of our moodboard from last year.

You’ll see the match with the final result: black faucets, double sink, baskets for more storage space and a clean minimal colour scheme. The entire house fits into a minimal colour scheme so for us it was important to keep every room related to each other. Also: our bathroom is not that big, working with bright colours was the perfect choice. It makes the bathroom look bigger.

Don’t underestimate the power of your moodboard! It is the foundation of your renovation. All your wishes, ideas and dreams come together. You can make several moodboards based on different themes: colors, materials, facilities, decoration, space of the room… One thing is for sure: in the end, everything will fall into place!

Visit a showroom & place your order

This is the part where you go and check out all items you need to make your moodboard come alive. We had a great experience visiting the x2o showroom. We got the exact help we needed and the sales assistant showed us all the possibilities we had.

For example, black faucets were a must for our new bathroom. They showed us all the options for our sink, bath and shower faucets and compared them to each other to make sure we would make the right decision. The exact same day, we placed our order and the countdown could officially begin! We headed home with a great feeling!

Delivery & installation

A few weeks later all our items already got delivered at home. This included all faucets and our new shower. We recovered our bath and toilet from the original bathroom. All products included detailed instructions so they were easily placed into our new bathroom.

Getting the beton cire over the existing tiles was probably what took most time. Luckily real experts did this for us so we didn’t have to worry about is.

Start decorating

This is the part where your dreams finally come true! My favorite part :) you can start decorating your brand new room!

Go back to your moodboard to create the sphere you always had in mind. Our bathroom is quite minimal, a black and white colour scheme so it was important to use the right fabrics and warm colours in order to create a cosy feeling in the bathroom.

What immediately changed the vibe in the bathroom were our curtains and my dried flowers. It created the warm feeling we thought was so important in our bathroom. The main reason why we wanted to give our bathroom an upgrade, was because it just was such a cold room. Literally.

The bathroom is a place where you want to feel at ease or relax after a busy working day. This cosy feeling was really important to us and we are very very happy with the result.
